Saturday Morning Cartoons

Morning cartoons are probably still awesome, but in the 1980's cable tv .... wasn't.  Digital tv was..say what?  Even if you paid for television, there wasn't much to buy that didn't air for free with and required a set of these:

and a box of this:

Which =

And you could watch anything radio-wave-catch-able for free.  I don't know how porn worked back then.  It was likely a guilty walk to the VHS section behind the curtain at the local supermarket.  These cartoons are what we were watching, and that was it.  Cartoons ran one morning per weekend.  Sesame Street and shit aired every day, but only really young kids in daycare got to watch that.  Makes sense.

Come Saturday................

Fraggle Rock:

These are awesome creatures that existed solely on radishes and Doozer Sticks - which were basically sugar planks that even smaller creatures used to build their cities.  So the fraggles would be fraggling around and just grab a piece a bridge and eat it.  In front of the Doozers no less, fraggles don't give shit.

Personally speaking, I'd say you are a most akin to Red Fraggle, with a lending towards Gobo.  That's not the worst fraggle to be at any table, as I am a Wembly-Boober-fraggle combo. This is not based on appearance, I encourage you to Google you some fraggle personalities!

 Gem and the Holograms:

She really was truly outrageous and probably started the sparkly trend in little girls.  I don't know, but I remember demanding glitter and I owned a couple of the dolls.

Electric Company:
You may remember the intro being screamed from the mouth of Sloth in Goonies......(also referenced in Farout Films).....

This is what he was referring to.  Remember, Sloth was chained up watching TV all day when this show was on.  We get it.

Kinda hard to know what the what you are about to watch isn't it?  It was educational, and that's all I remember.

Schoolhouse Rock:

In the 80's, everything 'kid' was loaded with either learning, or impressive subliminal concept that had you nagging Mom for the most inane shit possible.  Programming!  Early!  Kids were educated with cartoons, novel idea.

I to this day know this below by heart:

Muppet Babies:

Care Bears:
Care Bears are happy critters that live on clouds and each has a different belly or "specialty" as in there was probably a Smile Bear, and a Cheer Bear.

There are a few other notables, He-Man, Rainbow Bright, Sesame Street  and whatever else ran on PBS because that really the only station doing much by way of cartoon entertainment.

Totally True:
Interesting 80's Fact: The Mount Saint Helen’s catastrophe caused one of the strongest eruptions in north America, that has ever been  recorded. May, 1980.

Radical Recall:

1985:  The Outfield - Your Love

1989: Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus

Legit Lingo:

Duh
Part of Speech: Interjection
Meaning: Obviously
Related forms: No duh
Usage: Everyone knows Duckie should've ended up with Andie at the end of Pretty In Pink.

Believe it or not there was a time before Duh.  I wonder what we used instead?   No idea.
